How to Use the TRIR Calculator

Enter the total number of recordable incidents and the total hours worked by all employees during the period you want to calculate the TRIR for. After entering these two figures, click the “Calculate” button. The TRIR result will be displayed in the “Result” field.

How TRIR is Calculated

The Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) is calculated using the following formula:

TRIR = (Number of Recordable Incidents * 200,000) / Total Hours Worked

This formula uses 200,000 as the base number of hours worked for 100 full-time employees, assuming each works 40 hours per week for 50 weeks per year.

Limitations of the TRIR Calculator

The TRIR calculator is intended to provide an estimate of the safety performance. It does not account for the severity of the incidents or the size of the workforce beyond the hours worked. As such, it should be used as a general guideline rather than a definitive measure of safety performance.
