Rip Rap Calculator: Accurate Sizing Tool for Erosion Control

This tool will help you calculate the amount of rip rap needed for your project based on your specific dimensions.

Rip Rap Calculator

This calculator helps you determine the volume and weight of rip rap required for your project. By inputting the length, width, depth, rock density, and void percentage, you can accurately calculate the amount of rip rap you need.

How to Use:

1. Enter the length, width, and depth of the area to be filled with rip rap.
2. Enter the density of the rock (default is 100 lb/ft³).
3. Enter the void percentage (default is 40%).
4. Click the “Calculate” button to see the result in the “Result” field.

How It Calculates:

The calculator uses the formula:

Volume (ft³) = Length (ft) x Width (ft) x Depth (ft)
Weight of Rock = Volume x Density
Adjusted Weight with Voids = Weight of Rock x (1 - Void Percentage / 100)
The calculator first computes the total volume, then multiplies it by the rock density to find the total weight of the rock without voids, and finally adjusts this weight considering voids.

Limitations:

1. The calculator assumes the area to be filled is a perfect rectangle.
2. The results are estimates and can vary based on the accuracy of the input values.
3. It does not account for irregular shapes or variations in rock density.
