Use this tool to determine the correct breaker size for your electrical needs quickly and accurately.
Breaker Size Calculator
This calculator helps you determine the appropriate breaker size based on the entered voltage, current, and phase. It automatically applies a 125% safety factor to the current, which is a standard practice to ensure safe operation.
How to Use It
- Enter the voltage in volts (V).
- Enter the current in amperes (A).
- Select the phase (single-phase or three-phase).
- Click the “Calculate” button.
- The result will display the recommended breaker size in amperes (A).
How It Calculates the Results
The calculator uses the following formulas based on the number of phases:
- Single-phase: Breaker Size = Current * 1.25
- Three-phase: Breaker Size = Current * 1.25 * 1.73
The factor of 1.25 is used across both types of phase configurations to account for overload protection, and for three-phase systems, an additional factor of 1.73 (square root of 3) is used to accommodate for the power differences in three-phase circuits.
Limitations
- This calculator assumes typical load conditions and may not be suitable for all specialized applications.
- Ensure all electrical calculations comply with your local electric code and standards.
- Always consult a licensed electrician for advice specific to your situation.
