Heart Rate Zones Calculator – Optimize Your Training

This tool helps you find your heart rate zones based on your age and maximum heart rate.

Results:

This heart rate zones calculator helps you determine your optimal heart rate zones for various levels of exercise intensity. To use the calculator:

  1. Enter your age in the first field.
  2. Enter your resting heart rate in the second field.
  3. Optionally, enter your maximum heart rate. If left blank, it will be calculated using the standard formula (220 – age).
  4. Click the “Calculate” button to see your heart rate zones.

How it works:

The calculator uses the Karvonen method to determine your exercise heart rate zones. It first calculates your heart rate reserve (HRR) as the difference between your maximum heart rate (either provided by you or calculated using the standard formula) and your resting heart rate. Then, it applies the percentage ranges for each zone to this heart rate reserve and adds your resting heart rate back to the result to get the exercise heart rate for each zone.

Limitations:

  • The formula for maximum heart rate (220 – age) is a general estimate and may not be accurate for everyone. It’s best used as a guideline.
  • Individual fitness levels, medical conditions, and other factors can affect your actual optimal heart rate zones. Consult with a healthcare or fitness professional for personalized advice.
  • The calculator assumes consistent exercise conditions and may not account for variables like fatigue, hydration, and ambient temperature.
