Use this gear inch calculator to determine the distance your bicycle will travel with each pedal rotation based on your gear setup.
Gear Inch Calculator
Use this calculator to determine the gear inches for a bicycle. Gear inches provide a way to quantify how far your bike will travel with one complete turn of the pedals. Simply input the wheel diameter in inches, the number of teeth on your cog, and the number of teeth on your chainring, then click “Calculate”.
How to Use
- Enter the wheel diameter in inches.
- Input the number of teeth on the cog.
- Input the number of teeth on the chainring.
- Click on “Calculate” to see the result.
How it Calculates
The formula to calculate gear inches is:
(Wheel Diameter in inches) * (Number of Chainring Teeth) / (Number of Cog Teeth)
The result will tell you how many inches your bike will travel with one pedal revolution. For example, a result of 70 gear inches means the bike will travel 70 inches for each pedal turn.
Limitations
Please note that this calculator assumes perfect tire inflation and a rigid gear system without any slipping. Variations in tire pressure, tire size, and mechanical efficiency can affect the actual distance traveled.
