Use this carboplatin calculator to quickly determine the appropriate dose of chemotherapy based on your renal function.
Carboplatin Dosing Calculator Explained
This calculator uses the Cockcroft-Gault formula to estimate the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) based on the patient’s age, sex, and serum creatinine levels. The Carboplatin dose is then calculated using the Calvert formula, which factors in the target Area Under Curve (AUC) and the estimated GFR.
How to Use the Calculator
Enter the patient’s age, select their sex, and provide their weight and serum creatinine levels. Input the target AUC you’re aiming for with treatment. Then, click the ‘Calculate’ button to determine the appropriate Carboplatin dose. The result will be displayed in the ‘Result’ field.
Calculating the Result
The calculator first estimates the GFR using the provided patient information. For males, it’s calculated with ((140 – age) * weight) / (72 * creatinine), and for females, this number is multiplied by 0.85. The Calvert formula is then used, which is AUC * (GFR + 25), to determine the Carboplatin dose.
Limitations of the Calculator
This calculator is a tool for healthcare professionals and should be used as a guide only. Actual patient care should always consider more comprehensive assessments and professional medical judgment. The Cockcroft-Gault formula may not be accurate for all patient populations, such as the elderly, those with extreme body sizes, or patients with fluctuating serum creatinine levels. Additionally, the calculator does not account for specific clinical scenarios and comorbidities.
