Estimated Exercise Heart Rate Calculator

Use this calculator to estimate the heart rate you should aim for during exercise. By entering your age and resting heart rate, you can calculate the Estimated Exercise Heart Rate (EER) that is considered safe and effective for improving cardiovascular fitness.

How to Use the Calculator

Enter your age and your resting heart rate into the fields provided. Make sure that you measure your resting heart rate after having rested for at least 5 minutes for accuracy. Once you’ve entered your information, click the “Calculate” button to see your estimated exercise heart rate.

How It Calculates Results

The Estimated Exercise Heart Rate Calculator uses the well-known formula which estimates the maximum heart rate based on age by subtracting your age from 220. It then calculates your Heart Rate Reserve (HRR) by subtracting your resting heart rate from this maximum. Finally, it estimates the exercise heart rate by adding 70% of the HRR to your resting heart rate.

Limitations of the Calculator

The calculator provides an estimate based on a general formula and may not be accurate for every individual. Factors such as genetics, fitness level, medications, and cardiovascular health can affect your actual exercise heart rate. Consult with a healthcare professional before beginning any new exercise regimen and for advice tailored to your specific health conditions.
