Use our estep calculator tool to accurately determine the steps needed to reach your desired electronic setup configuration.
How to Use the Stair Calculator
To calculate the total run of your stairs, simply fill in:
- The number of steps on your staircase.
- The height of the risers (the vertical part of the stairs) in inches.
- The depth of the tread (the horizontal part where you step) in inches.
Then click the “Calculate” button. The result will be displayed as the total horizontal length, or run, of your staircase in inches.
Remember that the calculator does not account for the landing or any additional structures. Be sure to check local building codes for any compliance requirements.
Understanding the Calculation
The formula used for calculating the total run length is:
Total Run = (Number of Steps – 1) * Tread DepthCalculator Limitations
Note that:
- This calculator assumes all risers and treads are uniform in size.
- The number of steps entered should be the total steps minus any landings.
- The calculations do not include the final step onto the landing or upper floor.
- This tool is designed for simplicity and to give a rough estimate; precise measurements should be taken by a professional if needed.
