Insulation Calculator – Accurate Savings Estimator

This tool helps you calculate the amount of insulation you need for your project.

Insulation Calculator

How to use the Insulation Calculator

To use this insulation calculator, fill in the required fields for the dimensions of your building or room (length, width, height) in meters. Input the thickness of the insulation in centimeters, the thermal conductivity of the insulation material in W/mK (watts per meter-kelvin), and the temperature difference in degrees Celsius.

After entering all the required information, click on the “Calculate” button to see the heat transfer rate through the insulation, expressed in watts (W).

How it Calculates

The calculator determines the rate of heat transfer using the formula:

Heat Transfer Rate (W) = (Thermal Conductivity * Surface Area * Temperature Difference) / Insulation Thickness

Where the surface area is calculated as:

Surface Area = 2 * (Length * Width + Length * Height + Width * Height)

This calculation does not take into account factors like thermal bridges or specific heat capacity variations over time.

Limitations

This calculator simplifies the scenario by assuming even insulation throughout the walls and ignores factors such as windows, doors, and thermal bridges which may affect heat transfer. Use it for general estimations and consult a professional for precise evaluation and materials selection.
