The Kaiser Sepsis Calculator tool helps you assess the risk of sepsis in newborns based on clinical data.
How to Use the Kaiser Sepsis Calculator
To use this calculator, enter the following parameters:
- Age in years
- Heart Rate
- Respiratory Rate
- Temperature in °C
- White Blood Cell Count
- Systolic Blood Pressure
- Glasgow Coma Scale
- Creatinine level
Once all the parameters are entered, click the “Calculate” button. The result will display the sepsis risk based on the total score derived from the inputs. The sepsis risk can be Low, Moderate, or High.
How It Calculates
The calculator assigns points based on the following conditions:
- Age > 65 years: +1 point
- Heart Rate > 90 beats per minute: +1 point
- Respiratory Rate > 22 breaths per minute: +1 point
- Temperature < 36°C or > 38°C: +1 point
- White Blood Cell Count < 4 or > 12 *10^9/L: +1 point
- Systolic Blood Pressure < 100 mmHg: +1 point
- Glasgow Coma Scale < 15: +1 point
- Creatinine > 44.2 μmol/L: +1 point
The total score corresponds to risk levels: Low (<2 points), Moderate (2-3 points), High (>=4 points).
