How the Med School Calculator Works

The med school calculator uses various parameters to give you a calculated score representing your readiness for medical school. Here’s how it works:

Parameters:

  • GPA: Your Grade Point Average on a 4.0 scale.
  • MCAT Score: Your Medical College Admission Test score, ranging from 472 to 528.
  • Volunteer Hours: The number of hours you have volunteered in medical or community services.
  • Research Hours: The number of hours you have spent in medical or scientific research.
  • Shadowing Hours: The number of hours you have shadowed a doctor.

How to Use it:

Fill in your GPA, MCAT score, volunteer hours, research hours, and shadowing hours in the respective fields and click “Calculate.” Your readiness score will appear in the Result field.

Calculation Details:

  • The GPA and MCAT scores are scaled to have a maximum score of 40 each.
  • Volunteer hours add up to 5 points, depending on the number of hours (capped at 100 hours).
  • Research hours add up to 10 points (capped at 100 hours).
  • Shadowing hours add up to 5 points (capped at 50 hours).
