Metric Thread Calculator – Accurate Measurements

This tool calculates the dimensions and tolerances of metric threads for accurate and efficient threading tasks.

How to Use the Metric Thread Calculator

To use this metric thread calculator, follow these steps:

  1. Enter the nominal diameter (in mm) of the thread.
  2. Enter the pitch (in mm) of the thread.
  3. Enter the length of the thread (in mm).
  4. Select the tolerance class from the dropdown menu.
  5. Click the “Calculate” button.
  6. View the calculated results in the result text box.

How the Calculator Works

This calculator performs the following computations:

  • Minor Diameter: Calculated as the nominal diameter minus 1.08253 times the pitch.
  • Tap Drill Size: Calculated as the nominal diameter minus the pitch.
  • Max Diameter: Calculated as the nominal diameter plus a tolerance factor based on the selected tolerance class.
  • Min Diameter: Calculated as the nominal diameter minus a tolerance factor based on the selected tolerance class.

Note: Tolerance factors are assumed values and are:

  • 0.1 for Close Tolerance
  • 0.2 for Medium Tolerance
  • 0.3 for Coarse Tolerance

Limitations

While this tool provides a convenient way to calculate key thread parameters, it has the following limitations:

  • The tolerance factors are assumed values and may not reflect the exact specifications required for your application.
  • Only standard values and simple calculations are considered. Complex thread standards and non-standard dimensions are not covered.
  • Ensure that the values entered are realistic and adhere to relevant standards.

Use Cases for This Calculator

Calculate Thread Pitch

Enter the diameter and TPI (Threads Per Inch) to instantly determine the thread pitch of a metric thread. Ideal for fast and accurate measurements without manual calculations.

Determine Major Diameter

By providing the minor diameter and pitch of the metric thread, you can effortlessly find the major diameter. Great for ensuring precision in your engineering projects.

Compute Minor Diameter

Input the major diameter and pitch to obtain the minor diameter for your metric thread. Makes it easy to verify threaded hole sizes for proper fittings.

Calculate Thread Height

Enter the major and minor diameters to calculate the thread height of the metric thread. Perfect for understanding the depth of the thread for specific applications.

Determine Pitch Diameter

By entering the major diameter and thread height, you can quickly find the pitch diameter of the metric thread. Helps you ensure accurate thread engagement.

Convert TPI to Pitch

Convert Threads Per Inch (TPI) to the corresponding metric thread pitch with a simple input. Facilitates seamless conversion between different thread measurement systems.

Compute Thread Angle

Input the major and minor diameters to calculate the thread angle of the metric thread. Essential for understanding the thread profile and matching it with compatible components.

Determine Flank Diameter

By providing the major and minor diameters, you can instantly determine the flank diameter of the metric thread. Ensures precise measurements for thread engagement.

Calculate Lead of the Thread

Input the pitch and the number of starts to calculate the lead of the metric thread. Important for determining the axial distance the thread advances in one complete turn.

Find Outer Diameter of the Thread

By entering the pitch diameter and the thread height, you can calculate the outer diameter of the metric thread. Enables accurate sizing for thread fittings and assemblies.
