This perpendicular bisector calculator helps you find the midpoint and equation of the bisector line for a given segment.
Perpendicular Bisector Calculator
This calculator helps you find the midpoint of a line segment and the slope of the perpendicular bisector. Just enter the coordinates of the two endpoints, and it will calculate the rest for you.
How to Use It
- Enter the x coordinate of Point A.
- Enter the y coordinate of Point A.
- Enter the x coordinate of Point B.
- Enter the y coordinate of Point B.
- Click the Calculate button to see the results.
How It Calculates
The calculator first finds the midpoint of the line segment by averaging the x and y coordinates of the two endpoints. Next, it calculates the slope of the original line segment, then applies the perpendicular slope formula (negative reciprocal of the original slope) to find the slope of the perpendicular bisector.
Limitations
The calculator assumes that the given coordinates are for two distinct points that form a straight line. It cannot handle vertical lines (where the x-coordinates of Point A and B are the same), as the slope is undefined in this case. Do not enter identical coordinates for Point A and Point B, as this will not form a valid line segment.
