Power Factor Calculator – Calculate Your Electrical Efficiency

This power factor calculator will help you determine the efficiency of your electrical system by calculating the ratio of real power to apparent power.

Power Factor Calculator

How the Calculator Works

This Power Factor Calculator helps you find the power factor of an AC electrical system. The power factor is the ratio of real power flowing to the load to the apparent power in the circuit. Real power is the capacity of the circuit for performing work in a particular time. Apparent power is the product of the current and voltage of the circuit. To calculate the power factor, you divide the real power (in kW) by the apparent power (in kVA).

How to Use the Calculator

To use this calculator, input the real power in kilowatts (kW) and the apparent power in kilovolt-amps (kVA) into the respective fields. Once you have entered both values, click on the “Calculate” button. The result will then be displayed as a dimensionless number between 0 and 1, truncated to three decimal places.

Limitations of the Calculator

This calculator assumes that the values entered for real and apparent power are accurate and represent the actual conditions of an AC electrical system. The accuracy of the power factor calculation is dependent on the precision of the values provided. Note that this calculator does not cater for power factor correction and does not take into account the phase difference between the voltage and current. It is purely a numerical tool and does not replace thorough electrical diagnosis or advanced power quality analysis.
