Use our recessed lighting calculator to quickly determine the optimal number of lights needed for your space.
Recessed Lighting Calculator
How to Use the Recessed Lighting Calculator:
- Enter the length of the room in feet.
- Enter the width of the room in feet.
- Enter your desired spacing between each light in feet. A common recommendation is to divide the height of the ceiling by 2 to get the spacing in feet.
- Press the ‘Calculate’ button to see the number of recessed lights you need.
How the Calculator Works:
The calculator determines the number of recessed lights needed for a room based on the room’s dimensions and the desired spacing between the lights. It uses the formula:
Total Lights = Ceiling(length / light spacing) * Ceiling(width / light spacing)
“Ceiling” refers to rounding up to the nearest whole number, ensuring there are enough lights to cover the entire area.
Limitations:
The calculator assumes square or rectangular rooms and uniform light distribution. It does not account for room obstructions, varying ceiling heights, or decorative lighting schemes. Professional advice is recommended for complex spaces.
