This tool helps you calculate the size of your room in square feet or square meters.
Room Size Calculator
This calculator helps you estimate the floor area, volume, and total paintable area of a room. Here’s how to use it:
- Enter the length, width, and height of the room in meters.
- Enter the number of doors and windows in the room.
- Click the ‘Calculate’ button to get the results.
How It Works
The calculator performs the following calculations:
- Floor Area: Length x Width
- Volume: Length x Width x Height
- Total Paintable Area: (Length x Width) + 2 x (Length x Height + Width x Height) – (Total area of doors + Total area of windows)
Limitations
Please note the following limitations:
- The calculator assumes each door is 2 square meters and each window is 1.5 square meters. Adjustments cannot be made for different door/window sizes.
- The calculations do not account for any irregularities in room shape, such as alcoves or built-in furniture which may affect the actual paintable area.
Use Cases for This Calculator
Calculate Area of a Rectangular Room
Enter the length and width of the rectangular room to find its total square footage. This calculator will help you determine how much paint or flooring material you need for the space.
Determine the Area of a Square Room
If your room is a perfect square, input the length of one side to easily calculate its area. You can quickly figure out the space available for furniture or decorations.
Estimate the Area of an Irregularly Shaped Room
For rooms with unique shapes, measure the length and width of different sections separately. Add the areas together using this calculator to get the total square footage accurately.
Calculate Volume of a Cubic Room
In case you have a cube-shaped room, input the side length to calculate its total volume. This feature is useful when determining the air conditioning capacity needed for the space.
Convert Room Dimensions from Feet to Meters
If you work with metric measurements, you can convert the room dimensions from feet to meters. This feature is handy for international users who prefer the metric system.
Factor in Wasted Space for Furniture or Appliances
Consider adding the area taken up by furniture or appliances when calculating the total room size. This helps you plan the layout efficiently without overcrowding the space.
Account for Angled Walls or Bay Windows
When dealing with rooms that have angled walls or bay windows, measure the longest and shortest lengths to ensure accurate area calculations. This will help you when selecting curtains or designing custom furniture.
Determine the Carpet or Tile Requirements
Based on the room’s area, calculate the amount of carpet or tiles needed for installation. This ensures you purchase the right quantity and avoid running short or having excess material.
Plan for Lighting Coverage Based on Room Size
Use the room size calculation to estimate the number of lights required for optimal illumination. This feature assists in creating a well-lit environment based on the room’s dimensions.
Calculate the Wall Paint Needed
By entering the room’s dimensions, you can determine the amount of paint required to cover the walls. This helps you buy the correct paint quantity and avoid unnecessary trips to the store during renovations.
