Use this scrap silver calculator to quickly determine the value of your silver items based on their weight and purity.
Scrap Silver Calculator
How to Use the Calculator
Enter the weight of your silver in grams in the first input field. Then, input the silver purity as a percentage (e.g., “92.5” for Sterling silver) in the second input field. Click the “Calculate” button to determine the scrap value of your silver based on current market prices. The result will display in US dollars.
How It Calculates the Results
The calculator first converts the percentage of silver purity into a decimal to determine how much of the weight is pure silver. It then multiplies this amount by the current market price per gram of silver to give you the value of your scrap silver.
Limitations of the Calculator
This calculator assumes a homogeneous purity of silver and does not account for stones, dirt, or other materials that might be mixed with the silver. The market price of silver per gram is hardcoded; to get the current value, update the variable silverPricePerGram
with the latest market price. The calculator also does not handle currency conversion; it provides the result in US dollars.
