Strokes Gained Calculator – Improve Your Golf Strategy

This tool calculates how many strokes you gained or lost in golf compared to the average golfer.

How to Use the Strokes Gained Calculator

This calculator helps you determine the strokes gained based on your performance on a specific hole in golf. Follow these steps:

  1. Enter the par of the hole (e.g., 3, 4, or 5).
  2. Enter the distance to the hole in yards.
  3. Enter the number of strokes it took you to reach your initial distance.
  4. Enter the number of strokes it took to complete the hole from your initial distance.
  5. Click the “Calculate” button to see your strokes gained.

How It Calculates the Results

The calculator uses a simplified formula based on the assumption that average strokes to hole out from any given distance can be approximated linearly. The formula used is:

Average Strokes = 0.02 * Distance + (Par – 3)

The strokes gained is then calculated as:

Strokes Gained = Average Strokes – (Initial Strokes – Strokes to Finish Hole)

Limitations

While this calculator provides a good estimation of strokes gained, it does have some limitations:

  • The linear formula used to approximate average strokes is a simplification and may not be accurate in all cases.
  • Other factors such as wind, terrain, and personal skill level are not taken into account.
  • The calculator assumes a constant rate of strokes improvement per unit distance, which may not reflect actual playing conditions.
