True Airspeed Calculator – Accurate Flight Measurement Tool

Use this tool to quickly calculate your true airspeed based on your input variables.

True Airspeed Calculator

This true airspeed (TAS) calculator helps you determine the actual speed of your aircraft through the air, as opposed to the indicated airspeed (IAS) which is measured by the pitot-static system of your aircraft.

How to Use:

  • Enter the Indicated Airspeed (IAS) in knots.
  • Enter the pressure altitude in feet (the altitude corrected for atmospheric pressure deviations).
  • Enter the temperature in degrees Celsius at your current altitude.
  • Click the ‘Calculate’ button to get the True Airspeed.

How It Calculates:

The calculation uses the following formula: TAS = IAS * (1 + (Temperature Delta * 0.02 / 1000))

Where:

  • IAS: Indicated Airspeed in knots.
  • Pressure Altitude: Altitude corrected for non-standard pressure.
  • Temperature Delta: The difference between the actual temperature and the standard temperature at that altitude.

Limitations:

Please note that this calculator is a simplification and may not account for all variables in certain flight conditions. It assumes a standard lapse rate of 2 degrees Celsius per 1000 feet and does not account for humidity and other atmospheric conditions that can affect airspeed.
