Truss Calculator

How to Use the Truss Calculator

Input the length of the truss span and the load applied to the truss in the form fields provided. Then click on the “Calculate” button to receive the force in the truss members. The result will be displayed right below the button.

How It Calculates

The calculator assumes a symmetric, simple truss with an evenly distributed load. It uses basic geometry to determine the height of the truss based on the input span length, assuming an equilateral triangle shape. Then it calculates the reactions at the supports and divides the reaction force by the ratio of the height to the span length in order to estimate the force in the truss members using static equilibrium principles.

Limitations of the Calculator

This calculator provides a simplified estimation of the force in the truss members. It does not take into consideration factors such as truss type variations, actual load distribution, material properties, and additional forces like wind or seismic activity. For a detailed analysis, professional engineering advice and complex calculations considering all such factors are required.
