Upholstery Fabric Calculator – Accurate Measurements

This tool helps you calculate how much fabric you need for your upholstery project.

How to Use the Upholstery Fabric Calculator

This calculator helps you determine the amount of upholstery fabric you need for your project. Simply enter the length and width of the item you’re upholstering, the width of the fabric you’re using, any fabric pattern repeats, and the quantity of items you are upholstering.

  1. Enter the length (in inches) of the item you are upholstering.
  2. Enter the width (in inches) of the item you are upholstering.
  3. Enter the width of the fabric you are using (default is 54 inches).
  4. Enter the repeat pattern of the fabric if it has one (in inches).
  5. Select the quantity of items you are upholstering.
  6. Click the “Calculate” button to get the result in yards.

How It Calculates:

The calculator first converts the length of your item from inches to yards. It then adds the repeat pattern length to the width of your item. The formula used is:

Total Fabric (in yards) = ((Width + Repeat Pattern) / Fabric Width) * (Length / 36) * Quantity

Limitations:

Please note that this calculator provides an estimate and may not account for all the complexities of your particular project, such as fabric direction, extra material needed for seams, or multiple pattern repeats. Always consult with your fabric supplier or upholsterer to ensure you purchase the correct amount of fabric for your needs.
