Work Calculator Physics: Estimate Energy Exertion with Precision

This tool will help you calculate the work done by an object when a force is applied over a distance.

Work Calculator for Physics

How to Use the Calculator

To calculate work performed in physics, enter the force in newtons, and the distance in meters over which the force is applied. If there is an angle between the force direction and the direction of motion, enter it in degrees. Otherwise, you can leave the angle field blank. Then click the “Calculate” button to see the work performed.

How It Calculates

The work calculator utilizes the formula work = force × distance × cos(θ), where force is in newtons, distance is in meters, and θ is the angle in degrees between the force and the direction of the displacement. The calculator converts the angle to radians and then applies the cosine function to determine the component of the force that acts in the direction of the displacement.

Limitations

This calculator assumes a constant force and does not take into account situations where the force changes over the distance. It’s not suitable for work involving variable forces or movements on curved paths. Additionally, it does not account for friction, air resistance, or other external forces that might affect the actual work done.
