How to Use the Elderly Mobility Scale Calculator

1. Enter the Gait Speed (in meters per second) between 0.1 and 1.4.
2. Enter the Balance score from 0 to 5.
3. Enter the Functional Reach (in centimeters) between 0 and 50.
4. Enter the Mobility Level from 1 to 5.
5. Click ‘Calculate’ to see the result.

Explanation of the Calculator

This calculator evaluates mobility using four parameters:

  • Gait Speed: Measures how quickly an individual can walk a specified distance.
  • Balance: Rates the individual’s ability to maintain stability.
  • Functional Reach: Measures the distance an individual can reach forward while standing.
  • Mobility Level: Subjective rating of overall mobility.
The total score is calculated by normalizing Gait Speed to a 5-point scale, then summing the scores for Balance, Functional Reach, and Mobility Level.

Limitations

While this calculator can offer insight into an elderly individual’s mobility, it should not replace a professional medical assessment. Variations in environment, mood, or health condition can significantly affect the scores. For accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, always consult with healthcare professionals.
