How This Synthroid Dosage Calculator Works
This calculator estimates the daily dosage of Synthroid (levothyroxine) based on your weight, age, and thyroid status. Synthroid is a medication used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition where the thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormone.
How To Use the Calculator
Input your body weight in kilograms and your age in years. Then, select your thyroid status from the dropdown menu. Click the “Calculate” button to see your estimated daily Synthroid dosage in micrograms (mcg).
Calculating Your Dosage
The calculator uses an initial base dosage of 1.6 mcg/kg per day if your thyroid status is normal, 1.8 mcg/kg per day for hypothyroid individuals, and 2.0 mcg/kg per day if you have undergone thyroidectomy. If you are over 50 years of age, the calculator will adjust the dosage to 85% of the calculated value to account for potential changes in metabolism.
